BILL CLINTON AND CHRIS DODD

Both came to Clinton on New Year's Day, 2008.  This is a link to a slide show of both events by Mike Kearney.  He has several pictures of me!

Just below are my slides of Bill Clinton's visit.  With apologies to Sen. Dodd, I missed that event.
PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON AT ASHFORD UNIVERSITY

President Clinton gave up his New Year's Day to visit with Iowans to support Hillary Clinton's campaign.  He made a stop at Ashford University on Jan., 1, 2008.
Check out the pictures
SEN. HILLARY CLINTON AT CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL
Thanks to Marilynn Snook for furnishing these pictures of Sen. Clinton.
RIGHT AFTER THE BIDEN HOUSE PARTY, I LEFT TOWN FOR CHRISTMAS AND THEREFORE DID NOT ATTEND ANY OF THE  PRESIDENTIAL EVENTS THAT CAME LATER.  SORRY.  IF ANYONE HAS PICTURES FROM ANY OF THESE EVENTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO POST, PLEASE CONTACT ME

MEANWHILE
HERE IS A LINK TO A WHOLE BUNCH OF PICTURES BY MIKE KEARNEY OF THE DEC. 28 VISIT BY SEN. OBAMA.
SEN BIDEN'S DECEMBER HOUSE PARTY

He came to the home of Carol and Cammie McGuire On Dec. 21, 2007, where I got these pictures of him speaking to the group and with a few individuals.  Also, there are pictures of State Representative Polly Bukta and Dick Kissack.
GOVERNOR RICHARDSON'S DECEMBER HOUSE PARTY

On Dec. 17, 2007, the Governor came to the house of Sally Nelson
where I photographed him speaking to the group and with Charles Krumbein.  There is also a picture of me (Tom Gibbons) with him.  But don't let that deter you, you can look anyway.
PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON IN DEWITT

President Clinton visited DeWitt in support of Hillary Clinton's Presidential bid.
Here are some pictures of him speaking at the fairgrounds and being introduced by Ray Fredericksen.  Also attrending were the county's retired sheriff, Gary Mulholland, the current Sheriff, Rick Lincoln, and State Senator Roger Stewart, among many others.
SENATOR DODD AT OUR HEADQUARTERS
Sen Dodd visited the Clinton County Democratic Party Headquarters on NOv. 12, 2007. Here are some pictures of him with our Treasurer, Marcia Lass, and with a group of firefighters.
SENATOR CLINTON AT EAGLE POINT PARK

Click
HERE for a long slide show of Sen. Hillary Clinton's visit to the Eagle Point Park Lodge on Nov. 4, 2007.  It is on the Kodak Gallery Web Site by Mike Kearney.

Here are a few of my pictures of Sen. Clinton at Eagle Point Lodge.  She is with Sen. Roger Stewart, former VP Walter Mondale, a crowd of people, and Tom Gibbons - er - me, that is.

Sorry I missed Gov. Richardson in DeWitt.  If anyone has photos of that event that could be posted,
please let me know.
SENATOR BIDEN AT A HOUSE PARTY

Senator Joe Biden visited the home of Patrick Johnson and Cheri Canier on October 8, 2007.  He spoke to the crowd, took questions, talked to many of us personally signing autographs, answering questions, and so on.  I have some pictures of him speaking and with State Senator Joe Seng, State Rep. Polly Bukta, State Rep. Tom Schueller, Pat Outzen, and others.
SENATOR OBAMA AT ASHFORD UNIVERSITY

Sen. Barack Obama visited Ashford University on Sept 13, 2007, where he delivered a major foreign policy address spelling out his policy for ending the war in Iraq and bringing the troops home.  He was introduced by President Carter's former national security advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, who called the Iraq War, "a colonial war in a post-colonial period."  Brzezinski was introduced by local Democrat and Iraq veteran John Melvin.  Here are pictures of these people and some of the large and deeply involved crowd.
THE 2007 ANNUAL LABOR DAY PICNIC...

...was very successful.  Presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards paid a visit, and the lodge was filled to the gills with people putting away the food, winning prizes, listening to speakers, visiting, and so on.  Here are a few pictures of the event.

Thanks to Tracy Nichols for the pictures of Edwards and the Banner, of Bruce Braley, of Bob Krajnovich, and of the Labor Day shirt.  Thanks to Marilyn Snook for the picture of me.
POLLY BUKTA'S 2007 CORN BOIL
August 18, 2007 in Alliant Energy Stadium (It is usually in her yard.)

Lots of people prepared the corn and watermelon. Even more people ate it.

We all had fun in the rain (but the rain didn't last very long - The fun did).

There were many people there to watch.

It was moved to the ballpark because of all the candidates.

Senator John Edwards and Senator Chris Dodd spoke to us.

We also heard from
Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Joe Biden.

See the next group of pictures for more on the presidential candidates.
THE 2007 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES VISITING CLINTON COUNTY

I have put together groups of photos of each candidate that has been here in 2007.  Thanks to Tracy Nichols for the pictures of John Edwards' visit to Ashford University, an event which I missed due to my Alaska trip.  Also thanks to Sue Carmody for two of the Obama pictures (the one with me and the one where he is holding a kid).  I  took the other pictures myself.

Sen. Barack Obama at Clinton Community College

Sen. Joe Biden at the Lyons Depot

Sen. John Edwards and Elizabeth Edwards at Ashford University

Sen. Chris Dodd at the Corner Deli

Gov. Bill Richardson at the Riverside Restaurant

Sen. Hillary Clinton at the Corn Boil in Alliant Energy Field
THE 2007 CAMANCHE DAYS PARADE (AUGUST 11, 2007)

The Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25 banner was new to our parade lineup this time.

So we led off with
three banners.

Clinton County
Supervisor Grant Wilke and State Senator Frank Wood were ready for the parade to start.

Clinton County
Sheriff Rick Lincoln frequently participates in parades.

Several Presidential Candidates were there in spirit through their supporters.  For example,
John Edwards was popular.

The group of presidential candidates is so good this time that it is hard to choose.  Will it be
Hillary Clinton or John Edwards?

Here are two supporters of
Governor Richardson.

And finally, people like to use parades to promote candidates and whatever else is on their minds.  Here is a
group of pictures like that.  (And the guy in the funny hat who seems to be confused between Hillary Clinton and John Edwards as well as other candidates on stickers is me. I'll resolve my confusion about the candidates, but I'm keeping the hat.)
THE 2004 CLINTON RIVERBOAT DAYS PARADE
HELD ON JULY 7, 2007 [SEVEN-SEVEN-SEVEN]

Our New First District Representative Bruce Braley led off the show for us. We hear from other members of congress that he was new for just a few seconds, and then he dove right into the work like an old experienced legislator.

Then came the
usual banners.

Here is State
Representative Polly Bukta, glad to be in the majority in Des Moines now, assisted by Carol and Cammie McGuire.

State Senator Roger Stewart
, equally glad to be in the majority in the state senate, has a friendly greeting for everyone.

Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln, also with a friendly smile and greeting, had candy too and was therefore popular with the kids.

Our float was well populated in this parade, just as it was in DeWitt.  The float also was kind enough to promote this web site.

The presidential candidates were well-representred by their staff members and supporters, all of whom seemed to be having a good time.

And capping the show were
these pigs brought in by the organization "True Majority" (See truemajority.org and also sensibleiowans.org).  They were a big hit with the kids, who sometimes even ignored the candy to watch the pigs.  Did those kids notice that the first pig represented the defense budget while the two smaller ones represented, respectively, the education budget and the budget for world hunger and AIDS?

Here is a
group picture of many of the people participating in the parade.
THE 2007 DEWITT FOURTH OF JULY PARADE

As usual, we led off with the Labor Congress and Clinton County Democrats'
banners.

Again,
we had a float which was nicely dressed up with presidential candidate signs and populated with kids of all ages including State Representative Polly Bukta.

State Senator
Frank Wood got his exercise while following along.

Clinton County Sheriff
Rick Lincoln put up with the heat in his uniform and got plenty of exercise as well.

But the
dog had a ride.

Most of the presidential candidates, campaigning for the Iowa Caucuses, had
representatives carrying their signs in the parade.  The others had signs on the float.

Here is a
group picture with most of the people who marched or rode with us in this great parade.
THE 2007 CLINTON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC HALL OF FAME DINNER

Honored this year as new Hall of Fame members:

Willis and Charleen Anson (left side of this picture with Gus Keefer)
Receiving the award from Bob Krajnovich and County Chair Jean Pardee
Willis Anson
accepts the award and thanks everyone.

Diane Bolte was the other new Hall of Fame member.
She
accepts the award from Jean Pardee and thanks everyone.
Bill Gluba
congratulates Diane.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Bruce Braley.

He is our new member of Congress, and he sat at the
head table with Jean Pardee.
During his
speech he recognized the work of the Clinton Labor Congress, shook hands with them, and reported on a typical week in Washington with the help of the Congressional Record.

Five of the presidential candidates sent representatives to speak for them and gather support.  They included:

Illinois Senator
Dick Durban speaking for Barack Obama
Hillary Clinton's regional director
Zach Stewart speaking for her
Highland Nichols, a Clinton County Democrat, speaking for John Edwards
Delaware Atty General
Beau Biden speaking for his father, Joe Biden
Former MN Congressman
Rick Nolan speaking for Chris Dodd.

Meanwhile everyone had a good time:

We enjoyed music from IA State Senator
Joe Seng (and grandson).

Pat Outzen and Art Ollie met Mr. Biden.

Jean Pardee
talked things over with Dr. Donald Flory and Marcia Flory.

Here are a
lot of people having fun (12 separate pictures in a montage here - if it comes out very small, point at it and click the icon in the lower right).

John and Martha Bonte
responded to a call for club memberships with a check.
