COMING EVENTS
THE CLINTON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE will meet at Democratic Headquarters at 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 15, 2005,  third Tuesday of the month.
MARCH:   The Democratic Off Year Caucus is planned for a Sunday afternoon in early March - tentatively March 6.  Everyone will have an opportunity to express personal concerns and opinions.  We will have small group discussions about social security, energy, education, health care and the use of computers in political campaigns.   We will review campaign pledges made by candidates and how well they are following the Party Platform. We will decide on the top three priorities for the Iowa Democratic Party in 2005.  The Democratic Party is the grassroots party-the party of the people.  Input from every citizen is important and encouraged. We plan to use both email and the telephone for further notice.  Forward this email to your friends.  Help us to have as many Democrats at this event as possible.
APRIL:  The Hall of Fame Dinner is one of the major fund raising events for the Democrats of Clinton County.  We are searching for a person of national prominence to be our keynote speaker.
WE SHOULD HOLD OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES ACCOUNTABLE:  I was unable to communicate with Congressman Jim Nussle using the email address that I gave you in the last newsletter.  However, I was able to send an email to him by logging on to his web site:  http://www.nussle.house.gov
Elected officials say that communications from their grassroots constituents is the most effectiveway to lobby.  We should try it more often.   Mr. Nussle says on his website that email is a better way than regular U.S. mail due to the tight security in the U.S. House mail room.
A COMPARISON OF LEADERSHIP STYLES
1940 when England was under brutal attack by Nazi Germany:
"We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end.  We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."-- (Winston Churchill, June 4, 1940)
2002 when the United States had not been attacked by Iraq:
"Bring em on!" (George W. Bush)
