OUR YOUNG DEMOCRATS
We're very proud to have a number of  young Democrats actively engaged in promoting the party program. They are also involved in other  community activities.
Anne Schneck has been involved in community  theatre productions since she was in high school. She will be performing the role of  "Reverend Mother" in "The Sound of Music" on the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre  June 9th - 19th. We hope to see many of her Democratic friends  there!
I have had an exchange of several  email letters with Alex Ingham  concerning the lack of a comprehensive national energy policy. I was impressed with a paper on the  subject he wrote for Joan Boyd's English class at Clinton High School.  I am printing his latest correspondence  with me. There is some good general  advice for our party.
"Mr. Bush has been ignoring the  truly accurate data from his first day in office and formulating his own  supposed "accurate data" on which he bases all of his major decisions, later  relying on commissions formed to tell him his intel is faulty, which this too he  ignores. I do believe a great deal more research needs to be done on the subject  (energy) and that it would be extremely beneficial to have the facts laid out  for the public to see first hand how important oil independence is for the  future of our country in terms of our well-being domestically, as far as being  environment-friendly, creating economically-boosting initiatives as well as our  standing in the world. Democrats need to  do more than oppose Bush'splans  for ANWR as well as any other number of poor policies (i.e. social security.),  but rather provide an alternative which  includes providing valuable information about the types of things that would  make us a stronger country, one being progression on the road to oil  independence." (Alex  Ingham)
"Voters are looking for reform,  change and new ideas, but Democrats seem to be stuck in concrete."  (Stan Greenberg and James Carville on  Social Security)
GOVERNOR DEAN ON PARTY  ORGANIZATION
"Every four years, a few months before  the presidential election, the Democratic Party puts staff and resources on the  ground in a few battleground states ... and then they're gone. After November  the whole operation disappears. Then, four years later, we do the same thing all  over again. That hasn't worked. And  I ran for chairman on a promise to do it another way."
"So a few days ago I met  with the state party chairs, and we made a decision together. For the first time  ever we're going to build for the future by putting staff and resources on the  ground early -- starting in 2005, not 2008. "
You mandated a party built from the  ground up, and that's exactly what we're going to do. I am personally dedicated to making sure  that every single state has the resources and infrastructure to compete at every  level of office. To do that, we need a Democratic Party that commits to a  long-term presence in every state, every region and county. The Republican Party isn't waiting. They  have been building for years, and every day that slips by means another  opportunity missed." (GOVERNOR HOWARD DEAN, CHAIRMAN OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC  PARTY)  For more information on  Governor Dean's plans go to: http://www.democrats.org/50states
