A MESSAGE FROM SENATOR TOM HARKIN: Every election year brings its share of disappointments. But we will not be deflected from our fight to create a better, fairer, safer America. Now more than ever, it is important that you stay committed and engaged and keep your spirits high. As Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us, The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice. However, it does not bend all by itself. It bends because of the involvement and sacrifice of people like you. |

LET'S CONTINUE THE GRASSROOTS GAINS WE'VE MADE: The gains of the past cannot be reversed. The power of the grassroots cannot be put back in the bottle. And the future of the Democratic Party looks stronger than ever. We all need to pull together and work together. Continue to be an influence.

NOTABLE OBSERVATION: Recently while we were driving home from Wisconsin we listened to a caller to Wisconsin Public Radio who said that we Democrats should never apologize for our values. We have always helped the poor, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, housed the homeless, given comfort to those who mourn and to those who are persecuted, cared for the sick, supported the peacemakers and practiced tolerance to those who are different. We support programs that will actually help those who need help. We will not imitate the hypocrites who shout out their values in public but continually vote against legislation that will help. |
